A Call for Economic Justice: Interview with City Director of Consumer Affairs Lance Haver

by

In this Philly IMC interview Lance Haver questions why we've "created a society where 0.1% control 40% of the wealth of America". He goes on to raise a challenge that we must return our political focus to the "fight over a more equitable distribution of wealth." In this wide ranging video Lance focuses on the nature of democracy in our current consumer culture and how it relates to employment, welfare, wealth, the middle class, Walmart and most importantly, how to build towards alternatives.

Prior to working for Mayor Street, Haver spent over twenty years working as part of Max Weiner's Consumer Education & Protective Agency (CEPA) and had a long career working to improve the material conditions which shape the life of the workers and consumers that comprise Philadelphia. Some of the issues he worked on are: working to lower auto insurance rates and utility bills, fighting for affordable housing and mass transportation, and opposing predatory lending.
