Squatting again in the news

by

Check out this recent article in the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/10/us/10squatter.html?_r=1&th&emc=th
It features the Kensington Welfare Rights Union and Philadelphian Cheri Honkala as part of a national movement to move homeless families back into their foreclosed homes, or other foreclosed homes, as acts of civil disobedience against unjust evictions. It also says that the movement is gaining more and more support from neighbors and even law enforcements is often reluctant to move against it.

Brings back memories of our own famous film, "Squatters: the other Philadelphia Story," featuring none other than our former Mayor, John Street, then a young radical and supporter of homeless families' activism. http://librarymedia.org/MacArthur_Vids/Titles/squatters.htm
