We gathered and observed 40 seconds of silence to observe the 40th anniversary of Dr Martin Luther King Jr's most untimely and unfortunate death. This event was put together by the Delaware River Port Authority, the City of Philadelphia, Franklin Square Park and KYW Newsradio.

The Bridge Walk for Peace was supposed to be an event where we were all supposed to hold hands along the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. The Park Service said they had problems with us doing that, so perhaps we'll be able to do it next year. In any event, we gathered and observed 40 seconds of silence to observe the 40th anniversary of Dr Martin Luther King Jrs most untimely and unfortunate death.

One of the best books I read on the Civil Rights Era of the early 1960s was Parting the Waters by Taylor Branch. It covered the years 1954 through 1963. There are probably better books out there, but I thought this book was both an excellent story and an excellent history.
