No politics in this post, just a pleasant day. The concert and then the fireworks occurred at Penn's Landing, overlooking the Delaware River.

Looking out over the Delaware River from Penn's Landing. Pleasant day! Not too hot, both pants and shorts were reasonable choices.
Here's where the band played. From where I sat, I could see one person sitting at the very top.
People strolling about before the music began. Video of music playing (Video is a Flash (FLV) file. No-cost Flash players are available here and here).
Sailboat on the river. Getting steadily more crowded.
This was taken very shortly after I got a seat. Thankfully, I arrived in plenty of time, about two hours before the music started.
It got REALLY crowded shortly before the music started! Video of music playing as it began to get dark.
Fireworks!!! (Click on picture to download/play video)
And finally, the crowd after getting out of Penn's Landing and as they're wandering into the town. Lots and lots of folks stopped off to sample the nightlife, but most (including yours truly) just went home.

"Freedom Celebration" to some, perhaps...
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Thu, 07/08/2010 - 1:35amAs Eugene Debs said, "while there is a lower class, I am in it, and while there is a criminal element I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free."
And as Frederick Douglass said, "What to the American slave is your Fourth of July? I answer, a day that reveals to him more than all other days of the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him your celebration is a sham; your boasted liberty an unholy license; your national greatness, swelling vanity; your sounds of rejoicing are empty and heartless; your shouts of liberty and equality, hollow mock; your prayers and hymns, your sermons and thanksgivings, with all your religious parade and solemnity, are to him mere bombast, fraud, deception, impiety, and hypocrisy - a thin veil to cover up crimes which would disgrace a nation of savages. There is not a nation of the earth guilty of practices more shocking and bloody than are the people of these United States at this very hour."
